President's Message - Capsun M. Poe, President 2016-2017 Aloha Rotarians and Friends:
Since the induction of our two newest members, Rotarian Jan Mills and Rotarian Dick Mills (pictured above), several people have expressed interest in sponsoring new members for our Club. Excellent! We use a standard form from Rotary International; you can have your potential member fill that out and get that back to you. The form will be available after the Read More link below. You can send that to me and I will forward it to Membership Chair Garry Yee to put out for a vote. For new and experienced members alike, remember that our District Assembly is coming up in just a few weeks. There is a small fee to attend, but if you do plan to attend, please RSVP to me at rotary@capsun.org as that is how they are taking RSVPs this year. We can arrange for payment later. We need a final headcount for food by April 14. Finally, I love this week's speaker's topic because it brings something that E-Clubs excel at - staying connected via online opportunities. It's been a busy week for the members of the Rotary E-Club of Hawaii. Just last night, several of us attended this month's Rotary Means Business Fellowship - Oahu meeting at the Kaneohe Yacht Club. And on Monday, we inducted two new members, Rotarians Jan Mills and Dick Mills. Although they officially joined our Club late in 2016, we just officially inducted them. As I said during their induction, Jan and Dick have a long history of service, both in and out of Rotary, and have been Rotarians long before they joined our Club. Please join me in congratulating them. Also at Monday's Board meeting, President-Elect Courtlin Holt-Nguyen was recognized as a Polio Champion in District 5000 (Rotary in Hawaii). This recognizes someone who has contributed at least $100 to The Rotary Foundation specifically to support PolioPlus and Rotary's efforts at Polio eradication throughout the world. On Sunday, our election closed and I am happy to report the following members were elected to the following positions for the Rotary Year that begins on July 1:
Finally, PE Courtlin Holt-Nguyen is this week's speaker, sharing thoughts and lessons from the Far West PETS training that he recently attended. Mahalo! Poe, President 2016-2017![]() Aloha Rotarians and Friends: For members of our Club, this is a reminder that you should have received a n email from me with a SurveyMonkey link that serves as our election. Voting will close over the weekend and results will be verified and announced at the Board meeting on Monday. We also have two service opportunities coming up in the next month. First, the Nuuanu Family Fun Night (a carnival) through the Boy Scouts has asked for assistance with food prep and counter orders on Friday, March 31, from 2:30-8:30 pm (2 hour shifts). Knowing most of us work, I've asked for the 6:30-8:30 pm shift and hope you can join us. They would like a count by the end of this week, so please email me at rotary@capsun.org if you are available to help. The Rotary Club of Ala Moana has also requested help making waffle hot dogs at the HBA Fun Fair on Saturday, April 1. We will be helping their Interact Club at their booth. But they cannot man the waffle dog machines, so the adults do it. They can use some help from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, working in 2-hour shifts (11AM-1PM, 1PM-3PM, 3-5PM). Even just one person per shift would really help them out. The event is held on the HBA grounds on Bates Street (off Nuuanu). Again, please email me at rotary@capsun.org if you are available to help. And finally, don't miss this week's featured article about the group of Rotarians who got to visit the European Union headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. It's great to see how recognized Rotary is across the world. Mahalo! Remember to click the Read More link to read the rest of our meeting President's Message - Capsun M. Poe, President 2016-2017Aloha Rotarians and Friends: First and foremost, congratulations to President-Elect Courtlin Holt-Nguyen. He successfully completed the President-Elect Training Seminar at Far West PETS in San Jose last week. This means he is now certified to take office as our Club President on July 1. Pictured below, with District Governor-Elect Nalani Flinn awarding his certificate of completion. And yes, it was in paper and not PDF! :) And finally, there's some good news. Several people have asked about our D5000 aloha shirts. District Governor Clint Schroeder just confirmed that more stock is available. So if you don't already have a shirt (or two), you can order them here.
