President's Message - Capsun M. Poe, President 2016-2017Aloha Rotarians and Friends:
Welcome to my final meeting as the President of the Rotary E-Club of Hawaii! It has been an amazing honor to serve you in this capacity. As I've mentioned to many, it was a busy year and one that I consider my best year in Rotary so far. The many new friends and partnerships with other Clubs have been tremendous in increasing visibility for our Club and to accomplish our goals. Everything we've accomplished (The Rotary Foundation giving, Dictionary Project, socials, partner socials, Rotary Means Business Fellowship events, multi-club service projects, and more!) has been because of you and your collective efforts to maintain a vibrant Club and to support Rotary's good works in our community. Thank you! You have all made a difference individually and helped our Club to make a difference. Our Club is in great shape for President-Elect Courtlin Holt-Nguyen to take over after he was officially sworn in by District Governor-Elect Nalani Flinn over the weekend (pictured above). I ask you to join me in supporting President Courtlin as he leads our Club for the next year. He's got some great ideas and initiatives to help sustain and grow our Club. I would like to send some special shoutouts to people who have done a lot to help me and for our Club as I served as President this year:
And of course, one final thank you to President Courtlin for heeding the call to serve and embracing it whole-heartedly. I look forward to serving with him as Treasurer and continuing to build our Club and its impact on our community. Mahalo! As we go into the final stretch of my term as President, one of the things I'm most proud of us accomplishing together as a Club has been related to our TRF Giving (The Rotary Foundation). So far, we have inducted three new Paul Harris Fellows (cumulative TRF donations of $1,000), added two new PHF+2 (someone achieving a second PHF, cumulative TRF donations of $2,000), one new White Hat ($5,000 in TRF donations in a single year) , and several Polio Champions (a Hawaii-specific program for TRF donations specifically to PolioPlus, starting at levels of $100). Our Club also received a citation for 100% TRF Participation (with an annual per capita giving of $100) and we received a District 5000 Citation for Highest Per Capita Giving by a Small Club. Congratulations to all of you and all of us on this achievement. And thank you very much for your generosity to Rotary and the causes we support globally. If you haven't already donated to TRF and would ike to, you can find more information at https://www.rotary.org/en/donate. In order for our Club to receive credit for your donation, you will first have to set up a Rotary account and login before donating. Donations to any of the TRF funds will count toward Paul Harris Fellow and other TRF recognition awards. I encourage you to donate to any fund that resonates with you, but note that donations to the Annual Fund-SHARE (AF-SHARE) come back to our Club in the form of a District Designated Funds Grant. For that reason, many of us contribute to AF-SHARE to help fund our Club's service projects in future years. Mahalo! Please join me in welcoming two new members to the Rotary E-Club of Hawaii. We just approved current Rotarian Kathleen Rhoads Merriam who is transferring from another club and also approved new Rotarian Rob Reich a few weeks ago (but your dear President didn't welcome him!). Having both a new and an experienced Rotarian will be a great addition to our Club as we hit the 25 member milestone. We've seen some growth this year and as we expand, I also want to make sure we don't forget about the basics. First off, please view the Our Members page. If you aren't listed or would like to update your information, please contact me at rotary@capsun.org. We need a headshot, your name, your classification (usually career), and a link to your Facebook, LinkedIn, or company page (your choice). This is one small way we add value for our members and also get to showcase us to the hundreds of visitors we receive each week. Mahalo! Poe, President 2016-2017Aloha Rotarians and Friends: Well, after talking about doing it for two years, we finally held our Club Vision Session this past weekend to gather feedback, get to know each other, and chart the course for our Club. We had about half of our members attend, so this is great. Many thanks to Rotarian Susan Szabo for hosting us at her home in Kailua. We hope to make this an annual event to plan things for our Club, so stay tuned to a future gathering. Speaking of gatherings, our Board meetings have always been open to all members, but we to better reflect the purpose of these meetings and to encourage non-Board members to attend, we will be calling these "In-Person Meetings" of our Club. Please know that all members, visitors, and guests are welcome to attend. We had a great run meeting at EAT Honolulu, but will be relocating to HASR Bistro in Chinatown (31 North Pauahi Street Honolulu, HI 96817) to follow the chef and staff of EAT as they combine forces with HASR. I'll have more info on our first in-person meeting there later this month, which will also be my last in-person meeting as President of our Club.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon, whether at HASR, online, or somewhere else! Mahalo! Remember to click Read More below to view the rest of our meeting |
