President's Message - Capsun M. Poe, President 2016-2017![]() Aloha Rotarians and Friends: As you know, one of Rotary International’s greatest accomplishments is the near eradication of Polio on the planet. With global partners such as Bill and Melinda Gates, polio cases have been reduced by 99.9 percent since our first project in 1979 in the Philippines. Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two countries with reported cases. So it was great to see DG Clint Schroeder and RJ Dornbos, president of RC of Honolulu Pau Hana talking about our collective efforts on Living808 with Taizo Braden last week. I have been remiss in not mentioning that District 5000 currently has a Polio Champions Challenge underway. More information is included in our meeting. Please remember that our District Governor will visit Rotary E-Club of Hawaii on Wednesday, September 28. All officers and members are encouraged to attend. A light lunch will be served. Remaining 2016-2017 Board Meetings Please know that you are all invited to our Board meetings held at Na Lama Kukui, 560 North Nimnitz Highway, from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm. We regularly see guests at the one time we regularly meet in the same physical space. Here are the meetings for the remainder of this Rotary Year:

Poe, President 2016-2017![]() Aloha Rotarians and Friends: As a Charter Member of our Club, I am amazed when I look back at how much we have done and the friendships we have built since we were first chartered in February 2013, under the leadership of Charter President Russ Sumida and two dozen other trailblazers. Just recently, I've had the opportunity to spend some time with our two newest members, who are my new friends. It really is great to have people in our Club who want to join the rest of us as we implement Rotary Serving Humanity and who want to make a difference in our communities. Earlier this month, Kama Hopkins and I had a chance to share a meal and stories with our new member Sandi Mabry and her husband Ron Mabry (PDG of District 7570). It inspires me to make new connections and start new friendships and to cherish and nurture our existing relationships. So friends, please click Read More and see what else is going on with our Club, throughout Rotary District 5000, and the rest of Rotary International. Mahalo! President's Message - Capsun M. Poe, President 2016-2017Aloha Rotarians and Friends:
83 days! As of this writing on August 17, there are 83 days remaining until the General Election in the United States on Tuesday, November 8. Here's some trivia: the Constitution actually says election day is on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. I am not going to make our Club partisan, but I definitely want to encourage our members and visitors to be involved in the political process. By voting, you help strengthen our democracy. More important than which candidate you vote for (and we all have different preferences) is that you cast a vote. With the level of involvement and commitment by Rotarians in our communities, especially this year as we embrace Rotary Serving Humanity, I don't think there are many of us who aren't registered, but just in case, I want to put it out there. In Hawaii's recent Primary Election, we didn't even quite make 35% turnout, which is pretty low. If you live in Hawaii, you can visit the Office of Elections website for information on registering to vote (deadline of October 10), mail-in absentee voting (ballots sent around October 20), walk-in absentee voting (begins October 25 and ends November 5), as well as results of all races in Hawaii. Speaking of voting, don't forget about our pending membership vote sent to your email by PP Garry Yee. Information is below. Also, this is your last chance to RSVP for A Day at Bellows. Information is listed below and I will spend the next few days confirming with those who replied. And for those of you who are attending the RMBF Oahu event on Thursday, I'll see you there. Mahalo! President's Message - Capsun M. Poe, President 2016-2017Aloha Rotarians and Friends:
There's a lot going on in Rotary as the members of our Rotary E-Club of Hawaii, several of our partner Clubs, our mother Club, and the rest of Rotary in Hawaii work together on Rotary Serving Humanity. With so many opportunities to learn from and help others in District 5000, you could easily miss out on everything going on. So let's plan to see each other in person soon at some of the events below or elsewhere in D5000. Did you get your Rotary Twibbon? August is Membership Month in Rotary and you have TWO ways to show your pride in being a member. Last week, I shared DG Clint Schroeder's tip to add a Rotary wheel and District 5000. But Facebook is also making it easy for us to add some Rotary pride. If you have somehow indicated you are affiliated with Rotary, you may already have the option to use a temporary profile photo that will add a "Proud Member" banner. I invite you to join in the fun if you are already a member of Rotary. And if you aren't yet a member, please reach out so we can talk. Here are the profile photos some of our Rotary E-Club of Hawaii members are using: President's Message - Capsun M. Poe, President 2016-2017Aloha Rotarians and Friends: Welcome to this week's meeting. Our Club sure was busy since our last meeting. Last week Wednesday, our member Carol Fetzer was the Guest Speaker at the Rotary Club of Kahala Sunrise's meeting at 7:15 am at Waialae Country Club. PP Garry Yee and I attended to listen to her talk on "Lessons From Great Leaders I Have Known" and visit our friends at Kahala Sunrise. Also, just this past Monday, Rotary Club of East Honolulu and Rotary E-Club of Hawaii presented the school supplies we collected to benefit Palolo Elementary School. The presentation was part of their Welcome Back to School assembly. PP Garry Yee and I joined Rotarians from East Honolulu to a very grateful and enthusiastic bunch of students. And boy those students know how to cheer! I think we need to have them come give pep rallies at Rotary meetings!
