President’s Message

Aloha Rotary e-Club Ohana,

Happy New Year! Thanks to each of you, our club finished 2017 on a high note and we're off to a wonderful 2018! By working together, we were able to provide ALL of the items on the wishlist for the Kahauiki Village unit that we were assigned :) Thanks to your efforts, a less fortunate family will now have the items they need to move off of the streets and into their new home.

We ended the year with another great Rotary Means Business Fellowship mixer at Wisp. We even made it onto the Midweek’s website http://www.midweek.com/jingle-and-mingle/ !

It’s never too early to start thinking about attending the 2018 Rotary District 5000 Conference from May 18-20th. This year’s conference will be held at the Four Seasons Resort at Ko'Olina on Oahu. The cost to attend the conference (without meals) is $50. If you’d like to go for the full package, which includes the registration fee as well as all meals (Friday night reception, Saturday Lunch and Dinner, and Sunday Brunch) the early bird price is only $375. After January 15th, the price for the full package will increase. You can lock in the lower price now by going to the District Conference’s website (http://rotaryd5000.org/sitepage/district-conference) and signing up.

Convention 2018: Toronto sightseeing
When you’re in Toronto for the 2018 Rotary International Convention, from 23 to 27 June, build some time into your schedule to see the sights of this beautiful city. The iconic CN Tower is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Toronto, welcoming about 1.5 million visitors each year. The tower has two observation areas and two restaurants, all of which provide breathtaking views. For the adventurous, the tower also offers a hands-free walk around the outside ledge of its main pod, which is 1,168 feet above ground.

Register for the 2018 Rotary Convention in Toronto at riconvention.org.

For something easier on the nerves, stroll through St. Lawrence Market, which has dozens of vendors selling food products and specialty items, or the Distillery District, a restored historic area that has been turned into an entertainment and shopping district.

You could also visit Gothic Revival-style mansion Casa Loma. Built in 1914 by a Canadian multimillionaire, it has almost 100 decorated rooms as well as secret passages and 5 acres of estate gardens. Once a private residence, the “House on the Hill” is now a museum and hospitality venue.

To enjoy nature, visit High Park – a huge green space with sunken gardens, hanging basket gardens, nature trails, and streams – or take a ferry to the Toronto Islands, which have meadows, woods, lagoons, and sandy beaches.
