Meeting: Four Reasons You Should Know More About Rotary E-Clubs - Katie Coard (March 16th to March 23rd, 2016)
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - Laine Kohama, President 2015-2016
Aloha Rotary E-Club members and fellow Rotarians!
Last week it was an honor to represent D5000 as the SAA at PETS this year with Joanne Laird. Also our fellow club member AG Ray Paler in Clint’s year and PE Capsun Poe was there too which was great. This years PETS had a new curriculum under Michael Juric and it was fantastic.
The D5000 leadership team came in on Wednesday plan out the upcoming week. The task at hand was to decorate the D5000 historic hospitality suite. It was good fun taking putting up all the decorations and making the suite look like a big Tiki bar. After the decorating and going to Costco runs and a Party City run, it was off to a dinner with everyone. Once back from dinner Ray ordered the pizza and the AGs were off to welcome the incoming PEs. It was good to meet and greet the PEs that I saw at Pre PETS.
The next day I hit the ground running as SAA and it was busy one. To be honest the day was a whirlwind with it starting from 7:00 am to 12:00 am and then on Saturday it was the same. Then on Sunday it was 6:45 am to 2:30 pm. Overall, it was a great experience to see what went on behind the scenes as PETS was going.
The great thing was to be able and be in the same classes as PEs so I got to learn a bunch too. On Sunday there was an elective class that I was in which was lead by RI Zone director Brad Howard and Shirley Grace. It was both excellent and offered an insight on the challenges large clubs face (clubs that have 100 members and over).
The week I was back we had a DISCON 2016 meeting and then a Spring assembly meeting for Clint’s year (Mahalo Biz for signing up already). There was the USS Missouri project put on by the Downtown Honolulu Club and attended by the Honolulu Sunrise club. That project was excellent. Big shoutout to President Sean and Rose at Downtown Honolulu. I had a great time at the Windward Oahu fundraiser Shrimp Pa’ina. Great job to that club to make that fundraiser a success. See you folks next week Wednesday at the board meeting. Lastly, I’ll be speaking to the Ala Moana Club on March 31st on “Emerging Computer Security Threats and How to Protect You and Your Family and Friends.” Will leave you with a quote, “Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end” - Seth Adams
Speaker: Katie Coard - Four Reasons You Should Know More About Rotary E-Clubs
Four reasons why learning more about Rotary e-clubs will benefit Rotary and local Rotarians in your area
Want to help rethink Rotary? Here’s four reasons why you should learn more about e-clubs!
Recently, I was invited by the Rotary e-club committee to talk about Rethink Rotary and how that relates to e-clubs. At the end of the meeting I was asked, “When you were founding a club why did you not consider an e-club?”. My response was brief and honest. I simply did not know it was possible.
I’m not going to advocate that e-clubs are for everyone but they are a way of doing Rotary, that non Rotary e-clubs shouldn’t ignore. So here are four reasons why every Rotarian should learn more about e-clubs:
