PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - Laine Kohama, President 2015-2016

Aloha Rotary E-Club members and fellow Rotarians!
Picture
Recently I was asked to speak at the Honolulu Sunset club. If you haven't been to this club it's great as it's right along the water, which is a great venue, and of course the people are great.  Also, our club member Glenn Sears vision for Men's Shed in Hawaii is coming a reality.

Mahalo to Beth and Jim for inviting me again to speak about computer security. While there I've got to spend time with future DG Win and PE Marco. They were just recapping how well there fundraiser went, "Jazz Under the Stars."  They had a system where folks were able to bid online.

It was great to see all my friends and make new friends as well.  Many are going to be off to the RI convention, which is exciting.
Last week it was great to help our member Glenn with his Men's Sheds project.  The location that he had for the men's shed is great as it is central in town, and there is a bunch of parking

There was Glenn, his wonderful wife Mary, Jerry (Honolulu Sunset), and Ralf.  We took out the stuff from the room, and started cleaning. Most of the work entailed giving the place a good scrubbing and cleaning.  There was a floor polishing machine which was great so we could really get the grit out of the floor.  Glenn was driving that contraption, while I took to the mop.

While there it was great to connect with Jerry again as his son is my classmate from high school.  That is the second person I know from the Honolulu Sunset club that has parents who are my classmate.  In addition, I learned that Ralf is originally from Germany and is an excellent carpenter.  If you need a good carpenter, look him up.
Overall, it was great to see Glenn's vision that he talked about in December at our Christmas party start to become a reality.  Great job Glenn and Mary to get that project off the ground.

Please sign up for the District conference at the Halekulani.  I'll be there with some of our other members.  See old and new friends, while connecting for good.
We are having our change of command dinner that Capsun has been working very hard with PE Rory of the East Honolulu club.  That will be on June 18th in the evening.  I'm hoping you folks can make it as it'll be great to see you all.  It would be excellent to induct you for Capsun's year, and recognize you.

I hope everyone had a great memorial day weekend.  I'll leave you with a quote, "It isn't where you came from, it's where you're going that counts" - Ella Fitzgerald

SPEAKER: Rotary International Council of Legislation Results

Picture
Aloha Everyone!

Below is the Council of Legislation results.  The council meets every three years.  In addition we as Rotarians can voice any concern to RI on the voted on measures.  Here is the annnoucement from RI to the Presidents.
Dear Rotarians:

With the conclusion of the 2016 Council on Legislation, I am pleased to provide you with the Report of Action.  In this report, you will find:
  • A letter from General Secretary Hewko
  • Legislation that was adopted at the Council, including amended legislation
  • Vote tallies for the adopted items
  • An Opposition to Legislation Report Form
Clubs may use the opposition form to voice their disagreement to an adopted enactment or resolution. Completed forms must reach Council Services by 15 August 2016. More information about this form can be found in General Secretary Hewko’s letter.

In addition to the Report of Action, I would like to give you an update on the Manual of Procedure(MOP). The 2016 MOP will consist of Rotary’s governance documents, which were included as the yellow pages in previous versions. Since the MOP is published once every three years, the reference information found in the former white pages quickly became out of date and inconsistent with the Rotary Code of Policies, thus it has been decided to no longer include it.

In order to help transition to a shorter MOP, Rotary will provide a list of resources and will also translate the Rotary Code of Policies into key languages, which will allow Rotarians to reference the current policies. The Rotary Code can be found on rotary.org. Additional information on the new MOP will be sent to club presidents and district governors in the next few months.

If you have any questions about the report or the Council on Legislation or the 2016 MOP, please let us know.
