PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - Laine Kohama, President 2015-2016
Aloha Rotary E-Club members and fellow Rotarians!
Hope you’re having a great 2016! Earlier I mentioned the Joint Club Centennial Project at the Waikalua Loa Fishpond with all the East Side clubs. I will like to once again thank the club members that joined us on the centennial project (Ray, Biz, and Capsun). Big Mahalo to Ray that flew down from quiet to join us and set up the imu. It was also wonderful to see district governor Del and Diana’s two boys, District governor elect Clint and Jason, and the district governor nominee elect Win.
Herb Lee of the Pacific American Foundation and PE Roz took us on a tour of this wonderful fishpond. Before we started Herb led us in an oil, which is pictured in the slideshow below.
The Kaneohe club has been involved with the fishpond for the last 24 years. It was great to get our hands and feet dirty going into the pond and picking up the invasive seaweed in the pond. Capsun and I paired up with Del’s friends Brandley, Rie, and Miles. We were all given bags to put our seaweed in and bring it to the shore. Once we teamed up with Del’s friends with a boat, we had a much easy going. Instead of putting the seaweed in the bag, we could toss it on the boat, and then one of Diana’s sons would pull it ashore. Those kids were doing such a great job.
All that hard work, made us all hungry and we could smell the food cooking in the imu that Ray helped to prepare. There was Kalua pig, smoked chicken and ham, and of course Ray’s rice pudding, which was very yummy.
Overall, it was such a wonderful time and such a blessing to be a part. Mahalo once again for the Kaneohe Club to spearhead the effort. See you all at the next project.
Today I’m going to be speaking at the Waikiki Club on protecting there online identity, protecting their files, protecting your email, and much more. Looking forward to seeing the Rotary Ohana there. I’ll leave you with a quote, “Confidence, like art, never comes from having all the answers; it comes from being open to all the questions."
Our very own Biz (aka Sarge as she's our SAA) had made this wonderful video the Centennial project we were a part of. Mahalo Biz for all your hard work on documenting the event and making this video.
