Aloha Rotary E-Club of Hawaii Ohana,
Greetings from Narita Airport in Japan :)
I'm on my way to Vietnam to visit my in-laws and lay the groundwork for a potential international Rotary service project assisting disabled children. I wanted to take a moment and share my recent experience meeting some fellow Rotarians. I was waiting in the Honolulu airport lounge when an older couple asked if they could sit down next to me. They seemed friendly so we started chatting about the local news and hit on the topic of vaccines for children. The gentlemen, John, mentioned the importance of the polio vaccine and how his brother had been hospitalized with polio when he was a young boy. I asked if John was a Rotarian and he said, yes, he had been in Rotary for several decades In fact, he has been visiting the Honolulu Sunset club since 1995 whenever he and his wife travel to Honolulu. We spent the next half hour chatting about Rotary, his hometown in New Zealand, honeybees (John is a beekeeper), and how a Rotary e-Club works.
The point of this story is that you never know where you might meet a fellow Rotarian, they could be sitting right next to you and you may not even know it! This is one reason why it's a good idea to wear a Rotary pin, or hat, or shirt, or perhaps put a Rotary sticker on your laptop. You never know, you just might end up making a new Rotary friend :)
If you have a suggestion or favorite way of meeting new Rotarians, please put it in the comments below.
