President's MessageAloha Rotary E-Club Ohana, August is Rotary's Membership celebration month and it's the perfect time for new and existing members to learn more about the organization that they joined. An excellent resource for Rotarians is the Rotary Basics PDF, which is a guide to all things Rotary. In this guide, you'll read about the history of Rotary, its current structure, the 5 avenues of service and the 6 areas of focus. Please take a few minutes to read through this document, you'll like learn something new about Rotary or re-learn something long since forgotten :) For anyone who is able to do so, please consider donating your time, money or food items to the Marco Polo Condo Community Service Project that will be held this weekend on Saturday, August 12th (details below). Over a dozen Rotary clubs from Oahu will be taking part in the event to benefit the residents of the Marco Polo who are still recovering from the fire that destroyed a large section of their building and claimed several lives. Marco Polo Condo Community Service ProjectMany Rotary clubs in our District are participating in a community service project to benefit the residents of the Marco Polo condo, which suffered a devastating fire in July. Please see the message below from Bruce Fink, President of the Rotary Club of Pearl Harbor, for details about the event. If anyone would like to donate money to this project, they can do so via check or credit card (details below). If you are able to donate time on the day of the event to help with setup or clean up, or if you can bring food or drinks to the event, please email Bruce directly at brucefink@hawaii.rr.com. The event will run from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm on Saturday, August 12th at the Marco Polo Condo. Setup begins at 1:00 pm. ******************************************************************************************************** Message from Bruce Fink, President of Rotary Club of Pearl Harbor The Rotary Club of Pearl Harbor and Rotary Club of West Honolulu have agreed to sponsor a social for the residents of the Marco Polo 3:00 PM-6:00 PM on Saturday, August 12. This idea came from the board and building manager of the Marco Polo. People have been dropping off food, which residents have appreciated. However, a social gathering is a great opportunity for the residents to gather together, and wonderful for their morale. Kristi Hirota Schmidt is a resident of the Marco Polo, and was installed as the President of the Rotary Club of West Honolulu the day after the fire. Kristi is the major reason we are able plan this event. She has been working with the board and building manager of the Marco Polo to coordinate the project. I have made an event on Facebook and linked it to the participating clubs and D5000 as co-hosts: https://www.facebook.com/events/1544030178981420/ ****************************************************************************************************** HOW TO DONATE Option 1 If you would like to contribute financially to this project, please write a check to the “Rotary Club of Pearl Harbor” and send it to me: Bruce Fink, 1722 Makiki Street #701, Honolulu, Hawaii 96822.
